Yoga

What is Yoga?

You don’t have to be flexible to practice yoga, just a willing mind to learn and a desire to practice. It is suitable for all ages and physical abilities, we have students from late teens to early 80’s! Yoga is a mind and body practice that combines physical poses, breath and relaxation. At Worcester Wellness we practice Iyengar, Slow Flow and Yoga Nidra.

With regular guided practice the benefits can include:

  • Increases flexibility

  • Develops muscle tone and strength

  • Improves respiration, energy and vitality

  • Maintains a balanced metabolism

  • Boosts cardio and circulatory health

  • Curbs chronic postural pain such as lower back or neck problems

  • Reduces stress, anxiety and depression

  • Protection from injury by increased flexibility, reducing muscle strain

“Workout fads come and go, but virtually no other exercise program is as enduring as yoga. It’s been around for more than 5,000 years”

Yoga at Worcester Wellness Centre with Nicky Scott

Worcester Wellness has a fully equipped, tastefully designed yoga barn studio complete with exposed beams and extensive glass doors that overlook a beautiful setting.  The barn has underfloor heating for the winter months which helps achieve a constant ambient temperature. We supply all equipment to support your practice and aid your posture. During a class we may use yoga blankets, wooden blocks, foam blocks, belts, ropes, bolster cushions or chairs all designed to help you gain maximum benefit from your practice. There is a space for changing and shower facilities. All you need to do is turn up.

We recommend flexible fabrics and layers preferably leggings or bicycle shorts so they don’t restrict your movement but anything goes as long as you are comfortable. Classes are held in bare feet and we have a strict no shoe policy in the studio. The underfloor heating is perfect for the winter months.

Our classes are suitable for complete beginners or those with more experience, we have a number of yoga teachers from other methods. Yoga requires effort and focused attention to postural detail which improves your concentration, therefore, relieving your mind and body of stress. It deepens your self-knowledge and builds stamina and resilience, which also develops self-confidence.

Nicky and Yvonne are both qualified Yoga teachers and instruct the various classes at Worcester Wellness. They have a friendly and approachable manner and will work with you to get the most out of your practice. They will do each class alongside you and thoroughly demonstrate before each section. Their years of practice and teaching give you the opportunity to work with experts at the top of their game but in a friendly and supportive setting. They frequently provide 1-2-1 support during a class to help you achieve your best, no matter how long it takes.

Yoga is not a religion but it can often lead to a spiritual practice. We will shortly be offering courses in Yoga Philosophy. If you are interested contact us at info@worcesterwellness.co.uk
